One of the last authentic ‘Tiki’ themed hotels in the US, the Caliente Tropics was built in the mid 1960s when Polynesian-themed A-Frames could be found in nearly every city from Ft. Lauderdale to Spokane. Even today, this exotic yet unpretentious (and affordable!) motor Inn hosts a real tiki bar and offers an escape to another tropical time and place. This drawing of the ‘Tropics’ pavilion captures the often underrated structure and mystery of this period of mid century architecture.
